Boots will sell you any old shit

02/12/09 - 1 comment

One of the Boots directors has told a committee of MPs that the store sells homoeopathic remedies not because they work, but because people are prepared to buy them.

"There is certainly a consumer demand for these products," said Paul Bennett, professional standards director for Boot, "I have no evidence to suggest they are efficacious.

"It is about consumer choice for us and a large number of our customers believe they are efficacious."

So there you have it. Boots sell a product they have no belief will actually work (or have any beneficial effects whatsoever) simply because there are people who are prepared to part with their hard earned money for them.

Responsible retailing at work.

Presumably their attitude to conventional medicine isn't wildly different...
