Plymouth church start BYOB communion
0 commentsTo help lessen the risk of cross infection during Holy Communion the Catholic Diocese of Plymouth has invited parishioners to bring their own bottles.
The standard blessing that the wine receives from the clergy is not thought to be strong enough to stop the spread of swine flu, so the congregation have been asked to bring their own tipple with them to be blessed and drunk with biscuits.
The church has suggested followers bring red wine, however they will be happy to bless WKD, Red Bull, vodka or even brandy for the more discerning believer.
Initially the church recommended only serving consecrated bread during communion. Michael Fay, spokesman for the Diocese, said "That was the way the congregation used to receive communion - just in the form of bread - so we are just going back a little bit to what was happening in previous years."
In keeping with this spirit three women have been hung as witches and a gay man was stoned to death outside the church.
