International binge drinking day

17/03/09 - 2 comments

It's the day of the year where everyone celebrates the demon booze and goes out to get completely wasted on Guinness and any other booze you can think of with some green dye in it.

This annual celebration of plonk dates back to circa AD 385–461 and reaches across the world, from Texan trailer parks to Cullompton, everyone sinking flagons of ale and quaffing millions of barrels of the brown stuff.

The festival of excess became a public holiday in 1903 although Irish MP James O'Mara went on to introduce a law which required that pubs be closed to allow family to binge together.

This was later repealed in 1970s and binge drinking has become more and more popular with more and more people, with teenagers celebrating in parks across the country gulping down bottles of Diamond White before vomiting in the bushes, instead of drinking at home with their families.

So where will you be drinking today?
