Goodbye to rude streetnames
0 commentsLewes District Council, in East Sussex is the first of what will probably become many local councils drawing up politically correct road names in an attempt to stop confusion and derision.
Juggs Road and Cockshut Road are two names that would not pass the new regulations, along with some other, not so obvious names.
Hoare Road (Whore road), Typple Avenue (We're guessing because it sounds like nipple), Quare Street (Queer?), and Corfe Close (4 Corfe Close) would also have not passed muster had this been in place earlier, although we've seen worse.
Former councillor Rachel Powell, a resident of Cockshut Road, said: "I would hate for the name to change. It has some history. I can see with political correctness why the council would not want these sort of names but it is a pity."
Mike Hunt of Cuntsbury Ave said "I couldn't give a fuck, as long as I'm not living in Bastards Lane."
Indeed a 2005 book 'Rude Britain' lists 100 rude place names including the delightful Minge Lane, Bell End, Fanny Hands Lane, Funbags Avenue and the ever wonderful Gropecunt Lane.
