Who do you love?

Over the last year the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary has raised more money through donations, bequests and fund raising exorcises than the combined forces of Refuge, Women's Aid Federation of England and Eaves Housing for Women.

Between them, the three charities help female victims of domestic violence, and women who have been raped or trafficked in this country and yet the public seem more comfortable helping out the cute donkeys.

Maybe it's the big eyes and long ears, or the that people feel donkey abuse is worse than wife-beating that has prompted the disproportionate donations, or maybe people just don't like to think about domestic abuse and those affected by it.

England, where men are men, and donkeys are treated better than women. Borat would be proud.
