450 kegs of beer grow legs

In the Irish equivalent of the great train robbery, a lone thief has driven off with 360 kegs of Guinness and Budweiser and 90 kegs of Carlsberg from the St James's Gate Brewery in Ireland.

Dubbed the "Beer Hunter" by local scallies, it seems the social engineer drove his own HGV happily in to the yard, presumably waiving a clipboard and wearing a high-visibility jacket, before hitching up to a suitably well loaded trailer before driving off into the happy ever after.

Grainne Mackin, a spokes-woman for Diageo Ireland, said: "We've never had such a breach of security prior to this and we're taking it extremely seriously. All CCTV footage on site is being viewed and the Gardai are also looking at CCTV footage along the quays.

"The haul has a significant value. We have more trailers coming in and out as we are coming up to Christmas. What could they possibly want with all that beer?"
