Too fat for New Zealand

19/11/07
Thinking of emigrating to the other side of the globe? If you're overweight, then think again. Richie Trezise, 35, a rugby-playing Welshman, was originally told he had to loose weight after being rejected as he was a "burden on the health care system."

When his work backed application was originally made his body mass index, or BMI, was 42, classing him morbidly obese.

Having gone on a crash diet to meet the entry requirements, loosing 2 inches off his equator Mr Trezise moved to New Zealand in September. His wife Rowan has also fallen fowl of the same legislation and is hoping to shed a few pounds so the couple can be re-united in NZ.

Apparently the sheep infested isle "cannot afford to import people into the country who are going to be a significant drain on our health resources."

It's just a shame the UK can't do the same, although with all the scroungers on social and housing benefits it's a little bit late for that.
