Samurai sword saves children

Despite what the Echo would have you believe, not all swords are used for evil, just ask Damian Fernandez and his 15-year-old sister, Deanne.

Home alone while their parents were at work the they heard a knocking at the front door. Having left it, never open the door to strangers children, they soon heard the sound of the door being forced open.

As her brother slept in the next room, Deanne hid in her closet whilst the burglars ransacked their parents room.

Waking up as his sisters door was kicked in Damian grabbed his ornamental Samurai swords and prepared himself for the worst. The burglars had managed to find an empty PS3 box and were on the hunt for the console itself.

"Once I saw him take off running back, I jumped off my (bunk) bed and I grabbed my sword … and I just waited for him," he said.

When Damian lunged for the intruder, striking him in the chest it freaked him out and he fled from the house, hotly pursued by the brown belted karate kid.

When the police showed up they found one of the intruders hiding behind a neighbour's tree, who was promptly arrested.
