Agony Aunt

In need of consolation

Dear Lilu

What a dilemma I am in. My dear husband deserts me every evening for this machine, what am I to do? I go to bed alone night after night while he has his head stuck in to the machine?

How do I compete with it? What am I doing wrong? Do I dress up in golf gear to pretend he can play me like the machine? I'm at my wits end we haven't been married long do I just keep quiet or voice my views or will I be just another nagging wife?

Help!

PS3 Widow

Dear PS3 Widow,

Tricky one this, as I myself like to have a good ol' play on the PS(2). I haven't yet had the pleasure of playing on the PS3 but I can see the attraction in it.

This is a difficult situation to deal with as on the one hand you have the fact that all men are like 9 year old boys when it comes to games consoles, and on the other, you must have had some inkling as to what your husband was like before you married him? I find it hard to believe that he has changed at all since you met. Men just don't do that.

The reason men play on these games consoles for so long of an evening or sometimes the day, is because they have a very short attention span. A games console is the only thing they can play and complete with as little effort as possible (aside from the frantic waggling of thumbs). You yourself are not doing anything wrong at all, and there is nothing you can do to compete with such an "intelligent" piece of machinery.

Well actually maybe there is... You could undress in front of the TV screen and see how he reacts. In my experience the games console always takes a back seat and with any luck he might even do something useful with those thumbs. Alternatively you could always get a Nintento Wii with Wii-fit. This at least will enable you to join in on the games, plus you'll entertain your partner with all the jumping, wiggling and thrusting. Guaranteed to get his attention.

I hope this helps you in some-way, if not then get a new husband. You can order them online, the obedient ones anyway.
